Fashion in Ketchum

“ Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, and what is happening.”- Coco Chanel…

It is one of my favorite quotes. I think it is the best description of fashion and it also has so much to do with our K-town. Everything about it is fashion. Someone once told me that this place is like a hidden heaven. All the beautiful fall colors, the sky, the smell of the air, the snow on the top of the mountains. And it is so quiet.

It is a great weather for a walk, hike or a bike ride. Enjoy one of these days wearing our black Seven for all Mankind Gweneveres, cream with gold stripes LinQ sweater and high knee boots. Take your favorite book, a cup of hot chocolate (or latte and be fashionable) And if you feel like company have your man wear our William Rast Ben straight leg jeans, (Melanie's boyfriend owns a pair and they are one of his favorites because the comfort of the denim is to die for) one of the many Alternative tees under the great Seven For All Mankind suede jacket!

You can find all these beautiful pieces and accessories at Ketchum Dry Goods! Come on in! Be open-minded! And when you walk into one of our fitting rooms, please, don’t have a set fit, because your fashion life begins here!

I hope everybody is having a great fall! Stop by when you have a minute because we are always here for you. And also, don’t forget: We are shaped and fashioned by what we love!

Until next time,

The KDG Crew rocks fall fashion at Sawtooth Club!

Tonight the KDG Crew is heading out for a night on the town!!! We are hitting the Sawtooth Club on Main Street decked in Fall Fashion's best.

Jay is rocking the layered look, wearing a micro geometric print Shirt by Shirt button-down layered over a Velvet Men crew neck and a long sleeve v-neck tee. Jay is also wearing some great dark washed boot-cut Kasil jeans! Keep your eyes peeled for these, we'll be getting more Kasil denim in again soon!! They fit really well and flew out the door for us! We can't wait to get 'em in!

Inga is working the skinny embellished jeans tucked into boots look with a cute jacket and scarf! We have some GREAT embellished denim in the store right now from 7 for all Mankind! My favorites being the new faded black straight leg with black studding on the back pocket and the 777 series white skinny with hand finished bead and patch work! (777 series is a limeted run of hand finished pieces, only 777 in the world and we have a handful so get 'em while we got 'em!)

Melanie is wearing the new William Rast savoy straight leg jeans that we got in! These jeans are H-O-T!!! Faded black wash with bleaching details on the pockets! She is also rocking the cute new 7 for all Mankind long sweater that we got in! This has thick stripes with grays, maroons and golds! She wore a cute gold toned tan turtleneck tee from French Connection under the sweater and piled on tons of cute necklaces! We have some really amazing necklaces and earring on the way from a new artist located in Portland called Stringtusk! We'll keep you posted on their arrival!

I will be in skinny gray 7 for all Mankind Gweneveres and a soft jersey baby-doll tee. We have some A-M-A-Z-I-N-G tees from Michael Stars and cute baby-doll styles that add a little dressy quality to the humble t-shirt! We also have great Alternative Apparel tees in right now. I am loving the burnout crews, they pair well layered under cardigans and soft cashmere sweaters! I NEVER go anywhere without a yummy soft scarf!(and my purple heels of course) We have some really great Michael Stars scarves in right now AND we have the cutest knit Lucky Brand scarf, on sale!!

So off we all go decked in our KDG Goods, ready for fall and fellowship (and a great dinner!) at the Sawtooth Club!

Winter comes to Ketchum on silent feet as the world is quieted with a blanket of snow.

The seasons have rapidly changed and with them comes a call for a change of wardrobe. Gone is the time of shorts, crops, bare legs, short sleeved shirts and tanks; while the time for jackets, sweaters, scarves, gloves, long sleeved shirts, jeans, slacks and leggings has come. Rather than lamenting the loss of the long, warm days and the opportunity to show some skin, we should embrace the seasonal transition by looking forward to the many opportunities it provides us to vary our routines and our look. Presented to us now is the chance to exercise some real creativity in how we dress. Never before has the opportunity to layer, and thus mix it up, been so abundant.

For the fairest of the genders, whether the look starts with a chunky scarf complimented by a shaped, biker jacket over a flouncy neo-bohemian top, which is worn back to a fitted pencil skirt, that is being worn over a pair of ponti leggings that have been tucked inside a calf high boot; or a fringed, light weight scarf worn kerchief style with slouchy boyfriend blazer that is layered over a tailored blouse and a pair of ankle zip skinny jeans (destructed or otherwise) and pumps, there have never been more possibilities! And, the options abound in accessories, as well. There are limitless choices when it comes to acceptable handbag styles, and a veritable cornucopia of jewelery possibilities be it bangles or cuffs, chunky or dainty, antiqued or polished, metals, stones, leathers or fabrics... anything goes!

And, for the guys, plaids and flannels are back! I'm not talking the grundged up look of days gone by, I'm talking about far superior fabrications, including some amazing double faced offerings; and cleaner, more tailored, lines. The entire men's silhouette is moving towards a slightly slimmer profile - from straight leg jeans and pants that follow the leg line in a "close, but comfortable" manner, but which are not "tight"; to shirts, blazers and outerwear which compliment a man's physique (i.e. broad shoulders, smaller waist - or at least give the illusion of such), and that are not "boxy". The level of engineering that is involved in today's patterning and construction, in conjuction with the quality and technical aspects of the fabrications, allows men greater ability to compliment and flatter their bodies while maining levels of comfort that were previously not possible in tailored menswear. Again, guys, think layers! At least give yourself the appearance of having some depth and style - it's not that difficult, trust me! If you're at a loss, just swing by - we're here to help.

So, throw some logs on the fire and make a nice cup (or two) of hot chocolate (stiffened or otherwise), or maybe pour glass of red wine, or brandy, or cognac... and embrace the Winter for all that it is - and can be.

I hope to see you here - in one of the most beautiful places that you could hope to spend any of your Winter (or Summer) moments. I'll even pour you that glass of wine, or make you that cup of hot chocolate, just stop by Ketchum Dry Goods, introduce yourself, and if I don't offer, just ask.

Happy Winter~

New today...!

We got some great goods today! Fantastic button-down shirts for Ladies and Gents from Ben Sherman and some Ladies Local Celebrity Tees!

I love the Local Celebrity stuff, its super soft and the graphics are fresh and cheeky. I wish everything in my world was as soft! My favorite is this cute white crew that says "this girl can shop"... We also got in the Ladies version of our popular "Respect your Mother" tee, tres eco chic! These make really fun layering pieces!
The Ben Sherman pieces are stunning. I am loving the two plaid numbers that we got for men. One is a very nice black and white paid flannel with a back seam detail. The other is in a cotton woven fabric with a nice autumn colorway.

For Ladies we got my favorite button-down fit in a pretty mod inspired black and white dot print! As always the inside cuff adds a pop by surprising you with a different color!

These are all pieces that will be great to grab while you can! The weather deities have proclaimed that it is going to SNOW by Thursday... or be very cold. Either way come on in and well get you warm, cozy and cute!

Ciao for now-

Where to go (and what to wear) in Ketchum - Part 1

Food and fashion are two of my deepest passions. You can have one or the other but in my personal experience when the two are married together, the art of living is truly realized. This is one reason why Ketchum, with it's metropolitan in the mountains vibe, is such an intriguing destination.

Working at Ketchum Dry Goods, I have had a number of clients inquire as to where to go to dine, followed by the question "So what the hell do I wear in this town?"

Where: Ciro-
I love restaurants where food is presented as art. This for me is evident the second you walk in and see the bread sticks displayed on the tables like an edible sculpture. Additionally Ciro provides great service, they will more than likely remember your name the next time you come to dine. Last night I had the Pizza Margarita with prosciutto. It is my (and many others) opinion that they make the best pizza in town. This is a fantastic place to come with friends or with some one special. They are open daily for lunch and dinner.

Wear: Modern chic-
This is my favorite place to dine as the atmosphere speaks to my personal aesthetic. I typically would suggest neutral colors with the addition of a pop of hue some where in the mix, keeping the lines clean and modern.

For the ladies I would put together the Seven Gwenevere skinny in Black, the Cynthia Steffe draped jersey top in persimmon/orange with black heeled boots (I suggest heels as I have a bit of Napoleon Complex, you however can ignore that and wear whatever you want) I would say that the Joes Muse jeans with the deep navy Rare blouse and a pop of bold color in jewelry would be perfect as well.

As for the Gents, classic modern is the way to go. I very much appreciate a well put together man and we have some great options in the store right now. I would stick with dark denim, and a nice button down shirt. My personal favorites are the Seven A-Pocket jeans with our deep blue and black striped button-down by Shirt by Shirt. I also like the Joes classic jean with our last white striped Ted Baker shirt.

More to come at a later date!

The Taming of the Hue

I learned a lot about dressing from my Grand mama. She was always chic, no matter what she was doing! (I like to think I didn't fall far from the tree... I have even worn 3 inch heels whilst biking...)
Anyways, she would have shot and stuffed me if I EVER wore white after labor day. Well ladies (and you Gents too... if any of you read my rambles) the time is now to rebel, break the law, Vouge says so...!

White has made it to fall, perhaps a subliminal message in the fashion industry for a clean slate. White paired with moody darks and supple suede is splashed all over the glossies. A spread in Elle features crisp whites and ivorys with jewel tone purples and slightly faded grays. Knee high gray suede boots, matte black tights and layers of fall colors in chunky knit fabrics take even the most resort-esq pair of white shorts into the depths of autumn.

We have some amazing white denim in the store, I am lusting over this outfit; our limited edition 777 skinny jean with the deep plum Walter blouse (only one of these left by the way!!!) a Grey Michael Stars cardigan and chunky scarf....
The white element doesn't have to be on the bottom half either... our distressed black William Rast straight leg jeans with a Alternative Apparel tank under our cute white crochet Nougat cardigan layered under the Paige Black Label Moto jacket with some hot booties gives a peep of crisp in an otherwise dark color palette.

Let me know how you are wearing your white into fall! Just don't get shot by chic grand mamas!

New Seven for all Mankind and a KDG Goods-girl in the City!

Wow, what a week Goods fans! We got in some incredible merchandise! New cozy sweaters from LinQ that you can still easily work into a late summer outfit. We also got in my new favorite thing...in three new colors! Our best selling fall must have... the Seven Gwenevere ponte legging in Ash, a super hot Navy color and more of the wunderkind of all staples... Black. (Never can have too much if you ask me...)

Not only did we get some great merchandise in but a KDG Goods-girl (yours truly) just got back from a fall fashion eye feast in San Francisco! I always come back from San Fran feeling so very inspired by the way pieces are paired together. Like a one's palette there is common ground, but no right or wrong way to pair things. I love unusual pairings! I have seen a lot of feminine paired with dark and grungy pieces, making for a fresh and unexpected look that is always uniquely your own. The new San Francisco treat is the style mavens that I saw on those steep streets! The skinny silhouette is on the fast track for fall takeover, trend-ites paired their pairs with knee-high boots, neo-bohemian style tops, biker inspired jackets and piles of scarves! The second I got back to KDG I pulled a pair of our new Gwenevere leggings in navy, a soft mauve blouse by Nougat, the Paige Black Label Moto Jacket and piled on tons of our soft Michael Stars scarves... all that's needed it hot boots!!!
The other hot look that I L-O-V-E-D was feminine dresses layered with cozy sweaters and tons of statement jewelry. For this look I put together the Seven Draped silk dress (in a lovely soft olive gray) with black leggings, this AMAZING lacy black Nougat cardigan and some chunky Cynthia Desser jewelry ( we have hot cuffs and necklaces in from her!)

Check it out - All this week the window displays will be a hybrid on San Francisco fall fashion and always the latest and greatest here at Ketchum Dry Goods! Tweet what you think!

Ciao 'Mios!
